about

This electronic instrumental was to be the 2nd movement of the 3-part suite "Grit to the Wire” (see liner notes for “Circus Ponies Live”). This mix, done one sunny afternoon in the late 1990's on my old Macintosh G3 computer in Oakland, was a rough draft, but I haven't tried to re-do it since, as it has a languorous magic that I didn't think I could recapture. And for those of you who know digital-audio mixing….this was done on-the-fly with no automation…just my skittish little mouse dancing those faders around my small monitor. So, in effect this is a “live” performance! And yes, those are the gates of heaven I'm talking about. This one almost made it onto “Angels' Abacus”….certainly the theme was intact! But I just couldn't in the end divorce it from its suite-mates. So here it is with one of them, “Circus Ponies.”
