about

Angels' Abacus is a LONG album, and this tune was the sad apple who fell out of the full basket. I wrote this one in 2002 in France – it went through a couple of editions before it settled into this somewhat maze-like form. It has a groovy beat – I felt the huge influence of Peter Gabriel on the drum programming that I devised. I knew I didn't want to close the album on this tune, but I also could not figure out how to follow it were it to be placed elsewhere. It has this kind of ecstatic ending that is just so optimistic….not totally out of character for me (those of you who know me may concur!) but it somehow seemed glib within the fabric of the record. Anyway, here it is, finally.

FALLING UP
by Emily Bezar
© 2004 Blue Countess Music, BMI

my four eyes, my many bones
are my soul's disguise
when I'm alone
chain of fire
now wraps around and burns the ground
'neath all that I desire
I'm holding fast
like a finger through the wedding band
on this hand of fate I pass

when there's no more time for love
in the wrecking stages
you'll still be all I'm dreaming of
and I'm falling....
don't keep me mourning like that dove
these are broken cages
in this life here, in this life here
in this life here I am falling, falling
falling up

drain these tears,
bottle them and seal them well
a solvent for my fears
birds don't care,
if you take their day or night
still they find the air

when there's no more time for love
in the wrecking stages
you'll still be all I'm dreaming of
and I'm falling....
don't keep me mourning like that dove
these are broken cages
in this life here, in this life here
in this life here I am falling, falling
falling up

it is gonna be fine, it is gonna be fine,
it is gonna be fine but
when you gonna be mine, when you gonna be mine
when you gonna be mine all mine?

take me home,
i've cheated on the battlefield
but love like this
there's so much more to say
I may be wrong
but look who is free-falling here...
falling up through my arms
falling up through my arms
today
